What will you learn?
What exactly is the job of a Stage Manager:
The stage manager is an indispensable member of the team, responsible for ensuring that all aspects of the show run smoothly and efficiently. Key responsibilities include coordinating the rehearsal schedule, managing communications among the cast, crew, and director, ensuring everyone is informed and on the same page. The stage manager is responsible for taking detailed notes during rehearsals, documenting blocking, cues, and any changes made. They oversee technical rehearsals, calling cues for lighting, sound, and scene changes and troubleshooting any issues that arise. At the RTC the stage manager may also run the lighting board for performances. Additionally, the stage manager maintains the integrity of the production by ensuring that props, costumes, and set pieces are in place and in good condition. Ultimately, the stage manager is vital in bridging the creative and logistical aspects of a theatrical production, enabling a seamless performance experience.
Are you capable of doing all this and more? Would you like to give it a try someday? It takes a lot of concentration and training. If you think you are up to the challenge, RTC has just the workshop for you. Our “Stairway to Stage Management” class is an intensive, hands on, four-week class taught by RTC’s Original Stage Manager, The Amazing Nora Meyers. Nora has been our lead stage manager for 25 years. She has taught many of our current stage managers everything they know.
We now have a new, enthusiastic and apparently capable group of young people who have been working on crew and have expressed a desire to learn more and to move up. To accommodate these stage managers- of- the- future, we are reviving our original class in stage management, taught by the Grand Dam herself, Nora Meyers.
