SYNOPSIS: “The truth is rarely pure and never simple.”
A trivial comedy for serious people. This farcical, madcap and high society story of hidden identities, messy love connections, disapproving mothers and general buffoonery will have you laughing from top to bottom!

This production of the play will be campy, big and ridiculous!

Character Descriptions

John “Jack” Worthing J.P. (late 20s-30s)- a young man who takes life far too seriously. He is Cecily’s guardian and loves Gwendolen. He leads a double life that he works very hard to maintain.

Algernon Moncrieff (late 20s-30s)- a young man that does not take life seriously enough. He is selfishly silly to a fault. Jack’s best friend. He falls in love with Cecily.

Gwendolen Fairfax (20s-30s)- Algernon’s cousin and Lady Bracknell’s daughter. She is high society, materialistic, young and in love with Jack.

Cecily Cardew (20s)- Jack’s ward. A young woman that is full of romantic optimism. She is innocent and very taken with Algernon’s wickedness.

Lady Bracknell (50s-60s)- Matriarch, snobbish, high society, knows what she wants for herself and more importantly, her daughter, Gwendolen. This role may be performed by a male presenting actor in drag.

Rev. Canon Chasuble D.D. (50s-60s)- Sweet, pleasant, kind, has a crush on Miss Prism.

Miss Prism (50s-60s)- She is uptight, rigid and the teacher of Cecily. She does have a soft spot for Rev. Canon Chasuble.

Lane/Merriman/Moulton (30s-50s)- The play’s collective manservant. This actor will play multiple roles.

All characters will have a standard British RP accent
